Visit to Cisco

Dmitry Medvedev oversaw the signing of an agreement of mutual understanding between the Foundation for Development for the Skolkovo Centre for Research and Commercialisation of New Technologies and Cisco Systems, Inc. regarding cooperation in developing and implementing information and communication technologies.

The document announces the parties’ intentions to cooperate in promoting various promising programmes and initiatives to be implemented at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre.

It is envisaged by the agreement that Cisco Systems will help the Moscow Region town of Skolkovo become the first in Russia employing Cisco’s latest concept, Smart+Connected Communities.

Earlier, Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers agreed to become a member of the Skolkovo Foundation Council, the highest management body to practically engage in establishing the Russian technological centre.

Cisco Systems Inc. is one of the largest companies in the world specialising in high technologies.

It was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in San Jose, California. In 2009, the company had revenues of $36.11 billion.

Today, Cisco Systems is the main provider of networking technologies for businesses. Cisco’s network solutions are employed in integrated networks of many companies, universities, government agencies and services worldwide with its products exported to 90 nations throughout the world.

Cisco’s main lines of business are IP communications, network security, wireless LAN networks, SAN networks, home networks, video systems, and applied network services.

Cisco Systems, Inc. has been operating in the Russian market since 1994. The General Manager of Cisco Russia is Pavel Betsis, the company has offices in Moscow, St Petersburg, and Novosibirsk.

Cisco’s major customers in Russia are the Savings Bank and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, VTB Bank, Alfa Bank, Rosgosstrakh Insurance Company, Rusal aluminium producer, the Sukhoy aircraft manufacturer, the Basic Element Group, AvtoVAZ car manufacturer as well as many government agencies and services, including Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Telecommunications and Mass Communications, and the Federal Customs Service.
