Amendments to the law on immunisation against infectious diseases

December 9, 2010

Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Immunisation Against Infectious Diseases.

According to the World Health Organisation, the widespread use of vaccines against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) in developed countries has led to an almost complete eradication of diseases caused by the pathogen in those countries.

Based on the high effectiveness of the vaccine, the World Health Organisation recommended in 1997 the inclusion of vaccination against Hib in the national immunisation programmes in all countries where the disease occurs.

Given the research data on the incidence of Hib in the Russian Federation, the existence of a Russian-made vaccine against the infection, as well as the experience of immunisation against Hib in several regions of the Russian Federation, vaccination against Hib has been included in the current the national immunisation programme.
