Vladimir Putin visited the Russian national judo team’s training base, the Judo Academy, in the Moscow Region town of Zvenigorod. The President toured the centre’s new building and spoke with the athletes and trainers.
The Judo Academy sports centre, with a sports arena that seats 2,500 people, opened in Zvenigorod on April 7, 2012. The centre has an area of more than 12,000 square metres and includes medical facilities, properly equipped training rooms, a café, museum, and competition arenas. Mr Putin saw a model that shows how the centre will develop over the coming years.
The President talked with members of the men’s and women’s national judo teams and wished them success at the upcoming London Olympics. The members of women’s team gave Mr Putin a team photograph as a souvenir and asked for his autograph.
The discussion with the athletes continued over a cup of tea.
