Vladimir Putin signed a list of instructions following a March 13, 2013 meeting with coaches, athletes and physical culture and sports experts.
In particular, instructions to the Government of the Russian Federation concern the development of the National Physical Culture and Sports Complex, which establishes guidelines for citizens’ fitness conditioning; regularly holding the All-Russia Spartakiad of summer and winter sports; further developing the Presidential Competitions and Presidential Sports Games national sports contests for high school students.
The Government has also been instructed to provide the necessary financing for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports state programme, in accordance with the Strategy for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports in the Russian Federation through to 2020, with the aim of increasing the number of Russians regularly engaged in fitness training and sports to 40 percent of the population.
Individual instructions have been issued to the Government together with executive regional bodies and the Presidential Executive Office.
