Vladimir Putin sent his congratulations to Irina Rodnina, three-times Olympic champion and State Duma deputy.
The President said, in particular, in his message:
“You are one of our country’s sporting legends and a source of pride. You became the most successful athlete in figure-skating history, with three Olympic gold medals. It would be no exaggeration to say that Irina Rodnina is a name that has become a symbol of masterly skill, true fighting spirit, patriotism and determination to win. Your outstanding triumphs are a vivid example that inspires young people to conquer even the most difficult sporting heights.
Your active parliamentary and public work also deserves respect, as does the effort that you put into promoting a healthy lifestyle, popularising the Olympic movement, and providing social support for sports veterans.”
