Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to participants and guests of the 10th Russian Federation President’s Sambo Cup, held in Moscow.
The message reads, in part:
“When any event marks an anniversary, it provides a great opportunity to review the results of, in this case, the previous decade and outline the upcoming developments for this high-profile tournament, as well as discuss promising ideas and projects.
It is encouraging that high performance sport is becoming increasingly popular in Russia each year, and that more people are being drawn to mass sports. Sambo’s popularity is also on the rise. This sport was born in Russia, and is now part of the Ready for Labour and Defence sports testing programme, as well as the World Summer Universiades and the European Games. All this could one day result in sambo becoming an Olympic sport.
I would like to thank the organisers and participants of the Cup once again for the contribution to promoting the ideas and values of sambo, for your enthusiasm, proactive approach and commitment to your cause.”
