The President’s message reads, in part:

“For the next few days, Sochi will be the sambo city of the world. The world’s best sambo wrestlers, organisers, judges, coaches and fans will attend the competition to be held at several venues, but primarily at the Iceberg Skating Palace.

I would like to say that this martial art, which was created in Russia, enjoys well-deserved popularity around the world, and the number of fans continues to grow from year to year. We take pride in the traditions of the national sambo school and have gained considerable experience in hosting international tournaments. Therefore, we are confident that this competition will be held at the highest level, and that the participants and guests will enjoy spectacular bouts, beautiful and fair fights and exciting moments of triumph.”

The World Sambo Championships will be held in Sochi on November 9 to 13.
