The President signed the Federal Law On Amendments to the Federal Law On Physical Culture and Sport in the Russian Federation and to the Federal Law On Health Protection Principles in the Russian Federation on Matters Related to Biomedical Support for Athletes on National and Regional Teams.
The Federal Law defines the notion of biomedical support for members of the national teams of the Russian Federation and teams of Russia’s constituent entities, and also sets forth the manner in which biomedical support is to be provided and financed.
Biomedical support for members of the national teams of the Russian Federation and teams of Russia’s constituent entities is described as a set of initiatives undertaken with a view to helping athletes recover and improve their health, including through medical treatment, counselling, health monitoring, providing medication, devices and specialised food products, and conducting research in sports medicine. It is also noted that the said biomedical support will be provided in keeping with international and national anti-doping rules.
Biomedical support for members of the national teams of the Russian Federation and teams of Russia’s constituent entities will be financed from either the federal or regional budgets.
