Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to participants and guests of the 2018 World Schools Sambo Championships, which are being held in Orel on August 22–26.
The message reads in part:
“Such large-scale Sambo competitions among school students are taking place for the first time in history. This is an outstanding and long-awaited event for fans and martial arts enthusiasts. And, of course, you are the main heroes of these competitions.
I know that preparations for such high-level tournaments are always very demanding, requiring persistence, willpower, strength of character, discipline and concentration, as well as support from your families, coaches and friends. Such wholehearted dedication pays back with substantial and very useful experience that will allow you to cope with new challenges in sport and in life and to win the acclaim and respect of other people.
Doubtless, the World Schools Sambo Championships will make an impressive contribution to promoting the ideals and values of sambo. The wonderful Russian city of Orel has done everything possible to create a hospitable and warm atmosphere, to help you unlock your talents and display your potential in full.”
