Vladimir Putin sent greetings to participants and visitors of the Russian Presidential Canoeing Cup international competition underway in Moscow on September 1–2.
The message reads, in part:
”This representational tournament has become a fine tradition, having secured its place in the International Canoe Federation's calendar, and gained the prestige it deserves. The participation of experienced and recognised athletes alongside ambitious young ones has become a good tradition, one that gives the competition a particular freshness, which fans appreciate greatly. And, of course, I should note that the eventful programme of this year's tournament includes exhibition races in Paralympic and non-Olympic disciplines.
I am confident that these competitions will be held on a proper level, will be remembered for their fair competition and uncompromising battles, and, of course, they will serve to promote rowing, which is an impressive and dynamic sport.“
