Following the State Council Presidium meeting of the June 9, 2011, the Russian Government was instructed jointly with Krasnodar Territory authorities to take measures to ensure environmental safety in preparations for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, including strict compliance with to commitments set firth in the Sochi 2014 Bid Book.
The measures taken by the Government to ensure environmental safety in preparations for the Olympic Games in Sochi are of a permanent nature.
The Government approved the Programme to Build Olympic Facilities and Develop the City of Sochi as a Mountain Climate Resort, which contains a special Environment section contemplating 25 actions and facilities in accordance with the commitments assumed by Russia.
Four systems of “green” building standards have been implemented, which are in line with international requirements and are binding for the programme’s executive managers. As part of the state environmental impact assessment of Olympic facilities, project’s design solutions are being assessed for their compliance with international environmental and ecological regulations and requirements.
Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment is constantly exercising control over and supervising the compliance with environmental legislation at Sochi construction sites, including in water protection zones.
