Vladimir Putin has instructed the Interior Ministry to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the attack on human rights activists and journalists in Ingushetia and to give a proper legal assessment of the act.
The incident occurred in the evening of March 9 on the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya. A group of unknown individuals attacked human rights activists from the interregional public organisation Committee for the Prevention of Torture and media representatives. Reports say six people were injured, with four of them requiring medical assistance. A criminal case has been opened in Ingushetia in connection with the attack, incriminating hooliganism and premeditated destruction or damage of property.
