Dmitry Medvedev signed Executive Order On the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, establishing the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on the basis of the Investigative Committee of Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is being created in order to improve the work of preliminary investigation agencies and strengthen prosecutor supervision over the fulfilment of laws by these agencies. In particular, the Executive Order states that the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is a successor of the Investigative Committee of Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, and determines its staff composition.
The Executive Order takes effect upon its signing.
