Amendments to certain legislative acts strengthening control over the circulation of non-military weapons

December 28, 2010

Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation Strengthening Control over the Circulation of Non-Military Weapons.

The Federal Law is aimed at increasing public safety and order. To achieve this, a ban has been introduced on carrying and use of sports airguns by individuals who do not have a licence for the use of such weapons, and the sale of cartridges for non-military weapons to such individuals.

The Federal Law stipulates that owners of non-military self-defence weapons must undergo special training to learn the regulations and acquire the skills of using firearms.

Amendments made to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation establish criminal and administrative liability for illegal trafficking in limited range firearms.

The Federal Law toughens the punishment for illegal trafficking in non-military weapons and violating the rules of firearms circulation.
