Law on unified federal register of population data

June 8, 2020

Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On the Unified Federal Information Register Containing Data on the Population of the Russian Federation

The Federal Law defines the legal framework for developing and maintaining a unified federal register containing information on the population of the Russian Federation, including collection, processing, storage, retrieval, use and protection of such information, as well as ensuring the relevance and reliability of other state and municipal information resources containing information on the population of the Russian Federation.

The unified federal data register is based on information on citizens of the Russian Federation, foreign citizens and stateless persons, which are contained in other state information systems of state authorities of the Russian Federation and management bodies of state extra-budgetary funds.

The register is being created in order to improve the provision of state and municipal services and the performance of state and municipal functions, to protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, to ensure national security, to provide official statistics, and for other purposes.
