Meeting with Rector of Far East Federal University Sergei Ivanets

November 12, 2014, Vladivostok

Mr Ivanets briefed the President on research and academic work currently underway at the university and on measures taken to improve everyday life.

The President said that not only must the university train specialists in various fields, but should also take part in resolving the region’s human resources problems. An aircraft manufacturing hub and shipbuilding and petrochemicals clusters are being developed in the region. Oil and gas production is underway there, and a space launch centre is under construction. Marine biology is also an important field in the region. Mr Ivanets noted that the university is working in all of these areas and has partners amongst all of the big companies in the manufacturing sector. The university is developing all-round cooperation on developing technology on order for them and training the professionals they need. The university’s partners include Rosneft, Arsenyev Aircraft Company Progress, and shipbuilding corporations.

Responding to a question from Mr Putin on unresolved problems, Mr Ivanets said there have been problems with water supply on Russky Island, but noted that a water supply pipeline will be completed by the end of this year. The President said that the Education and Science Ministry will help the university to settle any current infrastructure problems.

Presidential Aide Andrei Fursenko and Primorye Territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky were also present at the meeting.
