Greetings to participants in the 12th meeting of security council secretaries of CIS members states

November 7, 2024

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants in the 12th meeting of the Security Council secretaries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members, which is taking place in Moscow.

The message reads, in part:

“The issues for your discussion today are extremely significant and relevant for deepening multilateral partnership within the CIS, ensuring collective security, facilitating the growth of national economies and promoting integration.

The global geopolitical situation is anything but stable today. This means that taking full advantage of your agencies’ impressive analytical and forecasting capabilities is more important than ever. This should serve to identify external and internal threats and risks to the CIS, and to promptly develop and adjust strategic planning documents that underpin priority state decisions, primarily regarding national defence and combating terrorism, extremism, transnational crime, drug trafficking and illegal migration.

Preparations for celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War hold a special place on your agenda. It is our common duty to honour the immortal feat of our fathers and grandfathers, to pass on the memory of the courage and heroism shown by soldiers at the frontlines and homefront workers to future generations, to preserve and protect the traditional spiritual and moral values that helped our peoples overcome any trials in difficult periods, and to continue providing a reliable foundation for our friendship and neighbourly ties today.

I am sure that your meeting will be rewarding, and its results will serve to strengthen the security of the CIS countries.”
