Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev chaired a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development of the Navy, which is part of the Maritime Board of Russia.
The meeting participants, including representatives of federal ministries and agencies, as well as organisations involved in maritime activities, reviewed the draft Strategy for the Development of the Navy. The new strategic planning document will formulate the Russian Navy’s immediate and long-term goals and objectives, as well as priorities in terms of shaping and developing the Navy.
The draft strategy relies on the basic principles of developing the Navy, taking into account the experience of conducting a special military operation, the current state and forecast for the further development of military political situation in the world.
According to the Council members, implementing the new strategy should help ensure Russia’s security, protect its national interests in the World Ocean, and safeguard Russia’s status as a great maritime power.
In addition, the meeting participants reviewed a draft Strategy for developing the Federal Security Service’s ship composition. Tasks pertaining to coast watching and ensuring security of the country’s maritime border areas will be reflected in the document.
The discussion also touched on a number of issues related to the coordination of work in the sphere of naval activities between the federal authorities and other bodies and agencies.
Established as per Presidential Executive Order On the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation, the Council has a mandate to devise measures aimed at promoting the Navy’s strategic development.
