Vladimir Putin held a meeting on preparations for the upcoming talks with Ukraine ahead of the Russian delegation’s departure to Istanbul.
The meeting was attended by members of the Russian negotiating group, whose composition was approved by a presidential order: Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Igor Kostyukov, and Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin. Other participants included Secretary of the Security Council Sergei Shoigu, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, Defence Minister Andrei Belousov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin, Director of the Federal Service of National Guard Troops – Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard Troops Viktor Zolotov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, and all commanders of the groups of armed forces in the zone of the special military operation.
Sergei Lavrov reported on foreign policy matters. Alexander Bortnikov, Sergei Naryshkin and Viktor Zolotov spoke on security issues and other aspects of their respective areas of responsibility. Denis Manturov reported on the situation in the economy and the defence industry, the fulfilment of state defence contracts and promising long-term development areas.
Andrei Belousov and Valery Gerasimov also delivered reports. All commanders of the groups of armed forces in the special military operation zone reported on the situation in their respective sectors along the line of contact.
The meeting participants conducted a detailed joint discussion of all reports. Based on these briefings, the President summed up the meeting results, set tasks and charted the negotiating position of the Russian delegation in Istanbul.
