The second meeting of the G8 heads of state and government was held with the participation of leaders of several African countries: Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. The discussion focused on peace and security, aid programmes to African states, strengthening the non-proliferation regime, Iran's nuclear programme, and combating terrorism and drugs.
The meeting was later joined by the leaders of Columbia, Haiti and Jamaica, who had been invited to a G8 summit for the first time. Security, fight against organised crime and terrorism were addressed.
