Meeting with Head of the Tambov Region Administration Alexander Nikitin

November 9, 2016, The Kremlin, Moscow

Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with Head of the Tambov Region Administration Alexander Nikitin. The discussion focused on the region’s socioeconomic situation.

According to Alexander Nikitin, the region registered positive dynamics in many indicators of socio-economic development from January to September 2016.

The Tambov Region is an agro-industrial area. The food and processing industries account for a substantial share of industrial production. Last year agriculture grew by more than 110 percent, and the food and processing industries by 114 percent. The physical index of industrial production is expected to reach at least 102 percent this year.

The Tambov Region stands out for its stable trend of growing investment. In 2015 investment exceeded 112 billion rubles. The head of the region said that three new production lines will be put into operation this year, including a turkey farm with a capacity of 40,000 tonnes, which can be increased to 100,000 tonnes, and a poultry farm with a capacity of 250,000 tonnes.

Livestock breeding is also doing well. Some 340,000 tonnes of meat have already been produced. With the commissioning of new plants next year, meat production will be increased by 200,000 tonnes.

The region is establishing the Michurin Federal Research Centre for Horticulture and Making Healthy Products and hopes to become one of the leaders in the production and processing of fruit and berries. The region has established two industrial parks to support industrial production. There are investment projects on advanced grain processing.

Another project described by Mr Nikitin involves the commercial exploitation of ilmenite, rutile and zircon sands. Federal geological exploration institutes conducted a survey and found that the region has the largest deposits of raw materials for producing titanium in the country. It was decided to build an ore-dressing mill.

Vladimir Putin instructed Alexander Nikitin to draft a relevant proposal in cooperation with Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov.
