Svetlana Medvedeva, HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Prince Consort Henrik participated in the opening ceremony for an exhibition of Danish artists at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.
The Danish Masters 1800–1850 exhibition, showcasing the Golden Age of Danish culture, was specifically scheduled to coincide with the Queen of Denmark’s state visit to Russia.
The exhibition includes 48 paintings by Danish artists from the collection of Copenhagen’s State Museum of Art. It is divided into sections such as Artist’s Workshop, Portraits and Scenes of Family Life, Danish Landscapes and Seascapes, City and its Environs and Italian Motifs.
A special section of the exhibition is devoted to sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, one of the greatest masters of European neoclassicism and the only artist of Denmark’s Golden Age to attain worldwide renown. The exhibition features 11 drawings, as well as a portrait of the sculptor from the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen. The exhibition is supplemented by Thorvaldsen’s drawing and sculpture from the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts’ collection.
