Vladimir Putin congratulated conductor and artistic director of St Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev on his 60th birthday.
The congratulatory telegram reads, in part:

Your varied professional path and huge contribution to the development of the best traditions of Russian and world culture deserve the most sincere respect and recognition. While remaining faithful to your chosen path, and the high ideals of service to the arts, you are always open to new creative ideas and plans. The public’s sincere love and applause represents a fitting reward for your work, as well as your large and generous talents.
Once again, congratulations on the opening of the Mariinsky Theatre’s highly anticipated new stage.”
