Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov held the first meeting of the working group for drafting Basic Principles of Russia’s State Cultural Policy.
In accordance with the President’s instruction, the working group must have the document drafted by April 1, 2014.
Opening the meeting, Mr Ivanov said that Russia’s cultural policy today must be about more than simply managing theatres, museums and libraries, and financing various festivals and competitions. The task today is to formulate objectives, goals and principles for carrying out a cultural policy that would cover practically all aspects of life.
Presidential Adviser and Deputy Chairman of the working group Vladimir Tolstoi briefed the participants on the results of the drafting work so far.
The Working Group’s members include representatives of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art, members of both houses of the Federal Assembly, officials from relevant ministries and agencies, heads of public and professional cultural associations, and academics and experts.
