The telegram reads, in part:
“Honouring great educators – brothers Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius – has become an established tradition not only in Russia, but throughout the entire Slavonic world evidencing the deep cultural kinship of our peoples. Today, based on our common historic and spiritual traditions, we are developing partnerships and cooperating successfully in humanitarian and other areas.
Each year, this unique festival which is organised through the joint efforts of the state, the Russian Orthodox Church, and public organisations, is becoming an ever bigger event in our country. Once again, dozens of concerts, exhibitions, and conferences celebrating Slavonic Literature and Culture Day will take place throughout Russia.
It is important to continue expanding the reach and variety of these celebrations. We must get more young people involved, introducing them to our rich national heritage and fostering caring and respectful attitudes toward Russian language and literature.”
Slavonic Literature and Culture Day is the holiday timed to coincide with the remembrance day for Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius, the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet, on May 24. This event is also celebrated in other Slavic nations.
