Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to the international conference The World of Chingiz Aitmatov: Integration and Intercultural Dialogue.
The message reads, in part:
“The great writer, thinker and diplomat Chingiz Aitmatov made a deep mark in the history of civilisation and popular memory. His books are close and familiar to people of all different nationalities and are a part of world heritage.
Parliamentarians, academics, journalists and members of the intelligentsia from Russia and other CIS countries have gathered in St Petersburg for this wonderful opportunity to once again turn to Chingiz Aitmatov’s rich literary and philosophical heritage. I am sure that this conference will be a memorable and unique event in the CIS’ public and cultural life and will strengthen and enrich the member states’ multifaceted cooperation.”
Chingiz Aitmatov (1928–2008) was a well-known Kyrgyz writer and public figure.
