Vladimir Putin sent a message of congratulations to participants and guests at the celebrations marking the 100 years since the foundation of the Gorky Film Studio.
The message reads, in part:
“The creation of a film studio at the beginning of the 20th century was a landmark event in the history of our culture. This studio filmed the first sound motion, colour and fantasy films and employed many recognised masters of cinematographic art.
The studio has had a long, successful journey, starting as a small team of enthusiasts and growing to become a major centre in the film industry. It is important that your team remembers the great traditions of your predecessors, honours and preserves them, and at the same time broadens its creative horizons.
I am confident this anniversary is a good cause to engage in new activities and launch new projects. I expect you to continue to make a significant contribution to the development of Russian cinema.”
Throughout its years of work, the film studio has released over a thousand films, many of which are recognised as top examples of Russian and global cinema and have won awards at many festivals.
