Vladimir Putin sent his heartfelt condolences to poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko’s widow, friends and family.
The President’s message reads, in part:
“Yevgeny Yevtushenko has passed away. He was an outstanding person, an icon of Russian and world literature, an opinion leader and a hero of many generations. He was bestowed with brilliant and unique talents and had an incredibly acute perception of his era. He sincerely believed in his own mission and in the high predestination of a poet.”
The poet died in the USA at the age of 84. Yevgeny Yevtushenko is the author of more than 150 books, which have been translated into many different languages.
