Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the organisers, participants and guests of the 2nd Moscow Piano Music Festival, The Unique Emil Gilels: A Great Pianist and Ambassador of Russian Culture, timed to coincide with the musician’s memorial day.
The message reads, in part:
“Our country is rightfully famous for its brilliant constellation of outstanding composers and conductors, as well as for its remarkable performing arts traditions. Emil Gilels was surely one of the most brilliant and talented representatives of the national piano school. The name of this legendary artist and his fruitful career are associated with bright, unforgettable pages of national and international cultural life.
I would like to note that by bringing together musicians of different generations at its venue – from students to renowned stars, as well as numerous guests – your festival makes a huge contribution to preserving and popularising the richest creative heritage of Emil Gilels, promoting the values of academic musical culture, and gives the audience the joy of encountering real art.”
