Greetings on opening of 17th Vladimir Menshov International Film Festival We Won Together

November 19, 2022

Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the organisers, participants and guests of the 17th Vladimir Menshov International Film Festival We Won Together held in the hero city of Volgograd.

The message reads, in part:

“Your festival, which has recently been named after outstanding Russian director and actor Vladimir Menshov, is rightfully considered one of the most representative and authoritative forums of documentary films. For many years, it has been fulfilling a noble mission helping to preserve the memory of the unparalleled feat of our peoples, who fought against Nazism during World War II. Now, when attempts are increasingly being made to revise the results of the most brutal war of the 20th century and downplay Russia’s role in achieving Victory for the sake of selfish political interests, this task becomes especially relevant.

This year the festival’s programme is full and diverse: there will be screenings of films about the Great Patriotic War, films about the heroism of our soldiers participating in the special military operation, the glorious traditions of patriotism and faithful service to the Motherland, passed down from generation to generation. Non-competitive screenings, research conferences and seminars are also planned.

I am sure that the festival will be held at a high creative and organisational level, will enrich the mosaic of domestic and world cinematography with interesting, meaningful works, and provide Russian and foreign masters with a good opportunity to communicate and exchange professional experience.”
