Vladimir Putin sent greetings to participants in the gala reception marking the 100th birthday of Daghestani national poet Rasul Gamzatov.
The message reads, in part:
“A great son of the Daghestani people, Rasul Gamzatov was truly a man of many talents, successfully fulfilled his potential as a journalist and public activist working at the state and international levels. But his extraordinary talent as a poet manifested itself most clearly and powerfully. His wonderful works resonated in the hearts of people of different ethnicities. He cemented the ideals of humanism and justice with his inspiring work, his worthwhile activities and his entire life.
Rasul Gamzatov was a true citizen and patriot, enthusiast and enlightener who made an important contribution to the development of the multinational culture of Russia.”
