Vladimir Putin sent condolences to the family and friends of Yury Temirkanov in connection with his passing.
The message reads, in part:
“The passing of Yury Temirkanov is a tremendous and irretrievable loss for all of us. He was an outstanding son of Russia, a selfless servant of national and world culture, a great musician and creator. A truly extraordinary figure, Yury Temirkanov dedicated his life to serving art and high spiritual ideals, generously sharing his talent and inspiration. He was open to good and noble deeds and initiatives.”
Soviet and Russian orchestra conductor, Artistic Director of the Dmitry Shostakovich St Petersburg Philharmonic and People’s Artist of the USSR YuryTemirkanov passed away at the age of 84.
