Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma for ratification the Agreement on the Foundations of Relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of El Salvador, signed in San Salvador on August 22, 2011.
The Agreement is the first interstate agreement between the two countries since they established diplomatic relations in 1992.
The Agreement is a framework document designed to develop mutually advantageous cooperation between the two countries in the political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and other spheres on the basis of the generally recognised principles and norms of international law.
The Agreement will enter into force on the date of the final written notification from the parties on completion of the necessary internal procedures. El Salvador has already sent such notification.
