Vladimir Putin signed a law on extending the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Specialised Agencies to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
Russia’s recognition of the Convention’s application to the FAO will make it possible for the FAO to open an office in Moscow and give its staff all privileges and immunities guaranteed by the Convention (exemption from taxes and customs duties, immunity for officials and so forth).
Stronger relations with the FAO will help Russia to better achieve its priority objectives in ensuring its interests in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and will expand Russian participation in international technical and humanitarian aid programmes.
