Congratulations to President of France Francois Hollande

July 14, 2014

Vladimir Putin sent his congratulations to President of France Francois Hollande on the Bastille Day national holiday, which this year also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.

The President said, in particular, in his message:

“I want to thank you once again for inviting me to take part in celebrating the 70th anniversary of the allied forces’ D-Day landings in Normandy. We in Russia greatly appreciated your speech at this event, in which you underscored the part the Soviet forces and people played in defeating Nazism.

I am sure that we can build on our fine past traditions to continue developing with success cooperation between Russia and France and work together as partners to resolve the important issues on the international agenda. This is completely in the interests of our peoples and will help to strengthen stability and security in Europe and around the world.”

Mr Putin also wished the people of France prosperity and wellbeing.
