Vladimir Putin conveyed his condolences to the President of the Republic of Iraq Barham Salih over a ferry crash and the loss of human life.
The message reads, in part:
“Please accept our deepest condolences over the tragic consequences of the ferry accident on the Tigris River – the death of dozens of passengers, including many women and children.
Please convey my words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of those who perished and wishes for an early recovery for all the injured.”
According to preliminary reports, the ferry sank as a result of being overloaded almost three times its capacity. There may have been between 170 to 250 passengers onboard. According to the latest information, 85 people have died in the accident.
