Ratification of Treaty on Basic Relations between Russia and Belize

The President signed the Federal Law On the Ratification of the Treaty on Basic Relations Between Belize and the Russian Federation.

The Treaty was signed in New York on September 25, 2018.

Under the Treaty, the sides pledge to develop bilateral relations in strict compliance with the UN Charter, including the principles of sovereign equality of states, self-determination of nations, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, as well as other universally recognised principles and norms of international law.

The Treaty obliges the sides to cooperate at the UN and other international organisations and forums to strengthen peace, stability and international security and to create a foundation for the socioeconomic development and prosperity of their nations.

The Treaty also stipulates the sides’ cooperation in trade, the economy, research, technology, environment, culture, the arts, education, healthcare, media, tourism and sports, as well as youth exchanges.

Under the Treaty, the sides are to join their efforts in the fight against international terrorism, transnational organised crime and the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.
