December 17, 2019

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Turkish side’s initiative.

Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed issues related to the ongoing escalation of military confrontation in Libya, expressing support for the UN and Germany’s mediation efforts to end the armed conflict and resume a peaceful dialogue. Both sides reaffirmed their willingness to assist in establishing inter-Libyan contacts.

The two leaders also exchanged views on Syria, including in the context of Russian-Turkish agreements to stabilise Idlib and the northeast parts of Syria. The importance of building up joint efforts to combat terrorist groups was emphasised.

The parties agreed to increase Russian-Turkish contacts in various formats.
