Dmitry Medvedev's comments on the situation in Kyrgyzstan

April 7, 2010

The President stressed that the most important thing is to prevent further loss of life and restore law and order.

Mr Medvedev noted that what has happened is Kyrgyzstan's internal affair but the protests reflect an extreme disaffection with incumbent authorities among ordinary people.

Kyrgyzstan was and remains one of Russia's strategic partners, so Russia will pay particular attention to how the situation in the Republic develops, Dmitry Medvedev said.

According to the latest data, 40 people were killed and over four hundred were wounded in mass riots that swept through Bishkek.
