Greetings on opening of Primakov Readings International Forum

June 25, 2024

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the organisers and participants in the 10th Primakov Readings International Forum.

The message reads, in part:

“In recent years, this forum, named after the prominent statesman, diplomat, and academic Yevgeny Primakov, has gained a reputation as one of the most respected international expert conferences. The Primakov Readings traditionally address the most urgent issues in global politics and economics, fostering candid and informal discussions. This approach reflects the collective brainstorming that Academician Primakov consistently championed and practiced. I believe that this year’s main topic, Russia in the Global Context, will be discussed in the distinctive Primakov style of open and thoughtful exchange.

I anticipate that the forum will give due attention to Russian perspectives on establishing a system of equal, indivisible security and mutually beneficial cooperation across the Eurasian continent, as well as our new proposal for a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. I hope that, unlike many Western politicians who dismissed our initiative without proper consideration, the forum participants will approach it thoughtfully and rationally. They will recognise that it genuinely offers a viable path to halting the conflict and transitioning to a political and diplomatic resolution.

I am sure that you will also examine the role and future prospects of BRICS, an association that represents the interests of the Global Majority and is chaired by Russia this year. BRICS serves as a driving force for establishing a fair and democratic world order based on genuine equality, free from dictate and strong-arm tactics.

As in previous forums, you will undoubtedly go beyond analysing the current international situation with its problems, crises, and conflicts. You will also explore long-term trends in global development, staying true to the principle that guided Yevgeny Primakov himself: addressing pressing issues while always looking to the future. Your assessments, forecasts, and insights will undoubtedly be both interesting and valuable.”
