Congratulations to Indian President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on India’s Independence Day national holiday

August 15, 2010

Dmitry Medvedev sent his congratulations to Indian President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the country’s Independence Day national holiday.

The message reads, in part:

“Over these years of sovereign development India has achieved impressive success in many different areas. A highly respected member of the international community, your country plays a positive part on the world stage.

I am pleased to be able to say that Russian-Indian relations are not subject to circumstances of the moment, but for many decades now have been lastingly friendly and constructive. The strategic partnership with India is unquestionably one of Russia’s foreign policy priorities. This partnership rests on a solid foundation of the mutual sympathy, respect and trust between our peoples.

It is important that our shared long-term national interests and the solid experience of fruitful cooperation we have accumulated serve to open up ever broader prospects for continuing to intensify our bilateral ties.

I am sure that the Russian-Indian summit planned for December this year in New Delhi will make a big contribution to developing our relations and strengthening security and stability in Asia and around the world.

I wish you success, and I wish the Indian people prosperity.”
