Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Michelle Bachelet on her appointment as UN Under-Secretary-General and head of the new UN entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The message reads, in part:
“I have warm memories of your visit to Moscow in April last year, and the interesting and substantive discussions we had then. I want to note in particular that during your time in office as president of Chile our joint efforts gave a serious boost to the cooperation between our countries. I take this opportunity too to congratulate you on the upcoming holiday on September 18, on which you will mark the significant date of 200 years of Chile’s independence.
We are genuinely pleased that your considerable political experience will now be put to use in this important work that concerns the lives, wellbeing and development of women and their interests.”
