Meeting with Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Wen Jiabao

Premier of The State Council of China Wen Jiabao (retranslated): Mr President, it is a great pleasure to meet with you. Your visit is taking place at a very important time when the global economic and political configuration is undergoing great change. During your talks with President Hu Jintao you outlined new objectives for developing the strategic cooperation between our countries, and your visit is therefore very important for our bilateral relations.

China and Russia view relations with each other as one of their foreign policy priorities. Indeed, we can say that our friendship is strong and stable, the kind of friendship that can withstand any tests.

Our countries have settled all the big issues between them. The main task for our governments now is to implement the agreements we reached and thereby take Chinese-Russian relations to a new level.

President OF RUSSIA DMITRY MEDVEDEV: Premier Wen, I want to say that yes, the world has changed indeed, and our task now is to be ready for the challenges we face today. Our strategic relations, the strategic partnership between Russia and China is therefore one of the factors in international development today.

Our partnership has reached such a level now that we are examining the widest range of issues and resolving the tasks before us in the economy and in foreign policy. My visit now is further confirmation of this. We have just signed a large number of agreements that will shape the level of our cooperation for the years ahead.
