Dmitry Medvedev sent his condolences to President of the Argentine Republic Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner following the death of her spouse.
The message reads, in part:
“It was with great sadness that I learned about the sudden passing of your spouse, a great statesman of the friendly nation of Argentina, Nestor Kirchner.
He was a wise and forward-looking politician. As President of the Argentine Republic, he made a significant contribution to ensuring economic and social stability in your nation and strengthening its international positions. Mr Kirchner, an active supporter of regional integration, greatly contributed to unification among South American states in the interest of peace and prosperity in Latin America.
We sincerely regarded Mr Kirchner as a friend of Russia. We associate his name with an important phase in development of Russian-Argentine relations. It is in large part thanks to his personal efforts that they have reached the level of strategic partnership.
Ms President, in this difficult time, please accept my condolences, my words of support, and my sympathy.”
