Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to delegates at the first Asian and Pacific Energy Forum, taking place under UN aegis in Vladivostok.
The President said, in particular, in his message:
“An effective and rational energy sector is crucial for long-term economic growth and development in our region and the world in general. It is therefore more important than ever that the Asia-Pacific countries coordinate their efforts to guarantee universal affordable and continued energy supply based on the principles enshrined in the decisions of the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development.
Russia is a consistent advocate of strengthening the energy sector’s international legal framework. We were the initiators of the G8 comprehensive action plan on energy security, which is based on the interests of both energy suppliers and consumers.
At the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vladivostok, we put forward concrete proposals for increasing the share of non-polluting natural gas in the Asia-Pacific countries’ energy balance and expanding the use of peaceful nuclear energy. We are drafting new initiatives on transparency and predictability on raw materials markets for the upcoming G20 summit in St Petersburg.
Russian hydrocarbon exports to the Asia-Pacific region continue to grow. Our country is doing everything necessary to meet the region’s rising demand for energy resources. We are increasing production at existing fields and developing new fields in eastern Siberia and the Far East, modernising our transport infrastructure, completed the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean major pipeline, and are laying the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok and Yakutia-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok mainline gas pipelines.
This ambitious work fits in with this forum’s objective of drawing up a strategy for sustainable energy supplies for the entire Asia-Pacific region for many years to come. I am sure that we can achieve this if we unite our efforts to build a common energy market and work together on the basis of partnerships between governments and business, giving substance to our political agreements by carrying out concrete investment projects.”
