Presidential Aide and State Council Secretary Igor Levitin chaired the first meeting of the State Council working group on the development of regional industrial policy.
The working group is headed by Tyumen Region Governor, member of the State Council consultative commission Vladimir Yakushev.
The meeting participants included representatives from the Federation Council, the State Duma, federal and regional executive authorities, business representatives and experts from research and public organisations.
In June, a meeting of the State Council consultative commission on the role of modern regional industrial policy in increasing Russian regions’ competitiveness and investment appeal took place on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Many regions showed an interest in taking part in the work and in sharing their best practices. The regions also submitted many proposals related to the issues that hamper the development of regional industrial policy. The regions’ interest again confirmed the need to review this issue at the State Council meeting.
Participants in the meeting discussed issues related to new approaches in the development of regional industrial policy, increasing labour productivity through the introduction of new technologies, creating centres of technology competence and factories of the future, as well as establishing interregional cooperation and forming interregional investment niches.
