The discussion focused on various matters of socioeconomic development and ways to improve the region’s transport accessibility.
Vladimir Putin noted that there are many acute problems in the region that require attention, such as demographics, healthcare and growth in people’s incomes; these matters need to be analysed and proposals need to be made.
Mikhail Vedernikov reported to the President that, despite the complexity of executing the regional budget, the local government is meeting all the social obligations it has undertaken. As of January this year, all the requirements of the May 2012 executive orders are being met. A regional strategic council has been set up and regional proposals have already been sent to the relevant federal ministries and agencies in all the 12 priority areas identified in the Presidential Executive Order No. 204 of May 2018.
The Acting Governor further spoke about the work being done to improve the transport accessibility of the region, including the resumption of air services between Pskov and Moscow and the launch of a high-speed train between Pskov and St Petersburg, which is important for the local residents as well as for the development of the region’s tourist business and industrial potential.
