Vladimir Putin held a working meeting at the Kremlin with Governor of the Tver Region Igor Rudenya.
Igor Rudenya updated the President on the region’s socioeconomic situation. The region is working actively with investors, in particular, Shell is creating a plant for bottling finished petroleum products in Torzhok. DKC (in conjunction with Italy) and the Tver Carriage Works are making good progress, and cooperation with Rosatom is improving. New technoparks and a large AvtoVAZ logistics centre have opened. The latter will serve the Volga Region and Central Russia, since it is conveniently located close to M11 and M10 motorways. The Orion company produces confectionery and is building a new plant; the agricultural firm Dmitrova Gora has built a new dairy plant and is upgrading the old one. A new dairy production plant opened in Rzhev.
According to the Governor, the tourism industry is making strides. In 2022, a river port will open for operations. The water area development is close to completion. It will be 300 by 300 metres and at least 8 metres deep. River navigation in Central Russia will start here and run through the Volga Region to Astrakhan and to St Petersburg.
The discussion also covered the labour market development with an eye towards replacing labour migrants with own resources, to which end work is underway with secondary vocational schools, the reduction of state debt, scaling up road repairs, and the implementation of gas supply programme.
With regard to demography, the Governor spoke about measures to support large families, in particular, providing free school uniforms and allocating one million rubles to families with more than five children for them to buy vehicles and gift sets for new-borns.
Answering the President's question on preparations for the new school year on September 1, Mr Rudenya said the level of readiness was high, repairs have been completed, and teachers are being vaccinated against the coronavirus infection.
On behalf of the Tver Region residents, the Governor made a couple of requests of the President concerning two ancient cities. One of them – the city of Bologoye – is the only large hub between Moscow and St Petersburg, which was not taken by the Nazis and made an enormous contribution to the victory. It was used to provide supplies to the Volkhov Front, the Kalinin Front and the Belorussian Front, and its residents ensured operation of the railway and the manufacturing industry despite bombing raids and the overall difficult situation.
The second city – Toropets – is the Tver Region’s oldest city mentioned in the Laurentian Chronicle of 1074.
The requests concern conferring the title of City of Military Glory on Bologoye and issuing a Presidential instruction on celebrating the 950th anniversary of the city of Toropets in 2024.
Vladimir Putin promised to provide his support.
