Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law On Establishing Russian Federation Courts in the Donetsk People’s Republic and Introducing Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation.
The Federal Law was drafted in pursuance of the Federal Constitutional Law On the Accession of the Donetsk People’s Republic to the Russian Federation and Establishing a New Constituent Entity of the Russian Federation, the Donetsk People’s Republic, and in accordance with the Federal Constitutional Law On the Judicial System of the Russian Federation.
The Federal Law stipulates establishing a Supreme Court, a Court of Arbitration, and 39 city, district and inter-district courts, and the Donetsk Garrison Military Court in the Donetsk People’s Republic. In addition, a permanent court shall be set up in Donetsk as part of the Southern District Military Court.
The decision regarding the commencement date of the established courts’ operation shall be made by the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
The Federal Law will ensure the administration of justice in the Donetsk People’s Republic and implementation of the local citizens’ constitutional right to access to justice.
