Maria Lvova-Belova visited Nenets Autonomous Area

January 26, 2024

On January 25–26, the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights made a working trip to the Nenets Autonomous Area. Together with Governor Yury Bezdudny, Maria Lvova-Belova launched the Year of the Family in the region.

At the meeting between the Commissioner for Children’s Rights and Governor of the Nenets Autonomous Area Yury Bezdudny, specific actions within strategic programmes aimed at protecting children in the region were discussed. According to Maria Lvova-Belova, an agreement has been reached to open a teenage centre and a daycare centre for children with disabilities. There are also plans to implement new projects to support families in difficult life situations and place children left without parental care and living in orphanages in families, preferably with relatives.

The Commissioner and the Governor visited the Dawn of the North agricultural production cooperative and met the Laptander family who live in the tundra, where they are raising 10 children and 10 grandchildren. According to Maria Lvova-Belova, this is a unique example of life as a large multi-generational family, where family traditions and values are respected, where older family members help the younger ones, and brothers and sisters support each other.

During her working trip, Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Our Home Family Support Centre, met with parents of children with disabilities and with young mothers currently in the maternity unit at the Nenets District Hospital.

In addition, she met with members of the children’s public council under the Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Nenets Autonomous Area. Ms Lvova-Belova also talked with the large Pervakov family, who represented the region at the Family and Loved Ones All-Russian Forum that opened the Year of the Family in Russia.
